Free Recording Studio Arrives in Reunion van This Fall; Saint-Paul Gets First Stop

Studio Si la Route rolls out on September 2, 2026, when a converted van stocked with professional recording gear pulls into its first stop in Saint-Paul, Reunion, offering something most residents there have never had within walking distance: a fully equipped music studio. The van is operated by the association En Studio under the project name Studio Si la Route. Funded through the Reunion Department's Citizen Initiative Budget program, the initiative received 15,000 euros specifically for vehicle equipment and modifications. That money covers the hardware and software inside, including computer-assisted music production tools and recording capabilities, along with direct access to sound professionals who can speak to career pathways in audio engineering and production. The tour runs fifteen stops across five partner organizations through November. MIO Ouest in Saint-Paul opens the schedule with six sessions in September, on the 2nd, 4th, 9th, 16th, 18th, and 23rd. October brings the van to Kaz Fami in La Possession on the 12th, 13th, and 22nd, where sessions are structured around creation, recording, and public presentation. The CCAS in L'Etang-Sale follows on three consecutive days, October 19, 20, and 21. The Program for Educational Success, also in La Possession, closes out the tour with dates on October 28, November 7, and November 14. Each stop is shaped around the host organization and the people it serves. That flexibility matters. A session designed for a youth employment office draws different participants than one hosted by a family support center, and the instructors adjust accordingly. By contrast, a fixed studio demands that residents absorb transportation costs and carve time out of schedules that often cannot accommodate it. Studio Si la Route removes both obstacles by placing the equipment inside the community rather than asking the community to come to the equipment. For neighborhoods without established cultural infrastructure, the van may represent a first direct encounter with professional music-making tools and the industry they connect to. A few details remain open. Specific session times and exact locations within each community are still pending confirmation from partner organizations. Any recordings produced during sessions will require participant authorization before any public release. The van itself is completing final setup ahead of the September launch. Whether the fifteen-stop model proves replicable, and whether En Studio pursues a second tour in 2027, will likely depend on what those first sessions in Saint-Paul produce.
