Indian Ocean Institute Revives Entry Program for Film and Digital Careers

L'Institut de l'Image de l'Océan Indien is relaunching PASARTIC, a preparatory program running since 2003 for candidates without a high school diploma seeking entry to film, audiovisual, animation, video game, and digital creative industries. The next cohort begins September 25, 2026, the institute announced Tuesday, August 25, with financial backing from La Reunion's Regional Council. PASARTIC, standing for Preparation for Access to Higher Education in Art and Information Technology, targets individuals without a baccalaureate who want to train in cultural, creative, and digital sectors. The program aims to equip participants with foundational skills needed to enter specialized training at ILOI or other higher education institutions. Curriculum covers 2D and 3D animation fundamentals, video game design, cinema, television, and audiovisual production. Digital creation forms a central axis. ILOI has added dedicated instruction in artificial intelligence applications within image industries, reflecting rapid transformations reshaping audiovisual production, animation, and emerging digital tools. No high school diploma is required. ILOI deliberately designed this entry point for people unable to follow traditional higher education paths, including those with interrupted schooling or employment gaps. That mission has remained intact since the program first opened in 2003. Participants hold professional training intern status, strengthening accessibility for those seeking qualification or career reorientation. The Regional Council's investment pursues a broader objective: developing skills among Reunion residents in sectors capable of generating new local employment. Film, audiovisual production, animation, digital creation, and video games are sectors where locally trained professionals directly shape the island's creative ecosystem. By contrast, the relaunch does not exist in isolation. The Regional Council recently allocated 622,000 euros supporting 25 new cinematographic and audiovisual projects from writing through production. Training represents an essential link in that wider structure. New productions can sustainably benefit the territory only if the island simultaneously possesses professionals capable of filling the varied roles required for their realization. Before September 2026, ILOI will organize an information session for prospective candidates covering pedagogical structure, admission conditions, and application procedures.
